Low energy...but I got it done.

"All you need is deep within you waiting to unfold, and reveal itself. All you have to do is be still and take time to seek for what is within, and you will surely find it."
Eileen Caddy

The way I was feeling this weekend doesn't happen often, but when it does, it usually leads to a day of barely doing anything other than meals, taking naps and reading. I am generally a very high energy person, but ever since I got sick, I've had to deal with off days a little more often. Usually, they are related to an exacerbation of the asthma, or some medication side-effect or a withdrawal symptom. Still, it had been a while...
Saturday morning, we went for our 3K run and I found it difficult, I was feeling tired. I then went to get my god-daughter and we went to the movies to see The Toothfairy...the main theme was:
"You've got to have dreams" :)
After the movie, I needed a nap and after a nice dinner, I took a warm bath (reading my latest book) and went to bed early. Still, I was feeling awful this morning, very tired and low energy (Cee if you are reading this, I plan on being in touch with you today so you can check my energy). I had lunch, then I took an hour-long nap and felt a bit better. Here's the thing, usually, there is no way I would have even considered doing something physical when I feel this way. However, having caught the running bug and because uber hubby was feeling enthusiastic about the run (that's one big advantage of running with my husband), I decided to give it a go. We had 7K planned on our training program today and thank goodness it was considered a long run and we were to use the 10:1 method. We were planning on running along the river to the fort, which is the most beautiful route, but once by the river we were freezing, it was the WIND  I hate wind, I'm totally with Laurel on this one.
By the river before we switched circuits!

As mentioned, we had to change our route. I could sure have used a Garmin today. We decided to go do our 3K circuit twice, because it was all among the houses, so less wind. Plus, what we'd already done, which we figured was at least 1K.
Going up a hill :)
Yup, I did it! Sometimes you just have no idea what you can accomplish. Deep down inside, I still had more energy than I imagined considering how awful I felt this morning. Bonus, now that the run is over, I am actually feeling better!
Now off to continue my book: "A Test of Will" by Warren Macdonald (this man is the first double above-the-knee amputee to reach the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro.)
Hope you had a great weekend!
Cheers!

Good job getting out there. Sometimes running when you have no energy to run is one of the best things you can do for yourself!

I am sure you feel great now! I had a similar low-energy weekend and had to force myself to run today but did and now I feel much better too :)
I hope Cee can recenter your energies soon :)

Glad you are feeling better! Sometimes when I am feeling a bit like I am dragging getting out and getting exercise is what I need to give myself a boost. For me, the more I lay around, the worse I feel.

Good for you. You had a great accomplishment today. I hate the wind. My run was great because there was NO wind today, a pleasant surprise.

good for you!!! and I TOTALLY agree about the wind.

Sometimes just getting out, even for a LSD will make you feel better. Make sure you do take your naps and pamper yourself. You are in it for the long haul! Stick with the plan, it'll get you to where you want to go!

Way to get out there! You are so lucky to run with your husband! For me just getting started can be the hardest part. The running bug is strong huh?

You and Julie are so brave and tough, running in all that snow and windchill! Just looking at your pics is making me shiver. 'A Test of Will' sounds like a great book, I'll have to check it out, thanks!

Sorry to hear you had a "down" weekend, but you didn't let it stop you from getting your runs in. I hope you are feeling better this week!

That's a key to good training - getting it done. It doesn't matter how fast or slow, but that you met the training distance. Great job!

I'm glad you did run, difficult as it may have been to muster the energy. Sometimes our bodies (and minds) just need to rest and if we don't listen, they let us know in other ways. The book sounds really interesting.
