The Plan, the plan

Oh my, I can't believe I'm actually using this line for my title...my age is so showing :) Fantasy Island anyone?

Okay, I am unofficially starting my half-marathon program this week...the official program starts next week, but I'm impatient, I want a plan! So because Mondays are OFF days and busy at work days, I will merely post my weekly plan on Mondays...unless something interesting happens, you know I'll be all about spreading the news. Not the case today though, unless you consider the fact that a few chips (50% less salt) mysteriously appeared next to my sandwich at lunch today...woah! They were those talking chips too, the one's that beg you to eat them :)

Week of January 25th, 2010

Monday: OFF
Tuesday: 3K tempo run + strength training
Wednesday: OFF + Yoga
Thursday: 5K steady run
Friday: Yoga + 5K slow run
Saturday: strength training + 4K steady run
Sunday: 10K long run (run/walk)

Okay, I'm actually increasing the number of Ks suggested for this week...next week I start the real program and it almost seems like a regression.

I guess that's how the process goes right? I've never followed a pre-race program before, so I'm guessing that it's normal to take it slow the first few weeks. Right? I see that as the weeks go by though, I will be expected to do things that hurt just to read!! 9 X 400m hills!!!!! Are you joking!

Congrats on starting to train for your 1/2 mary. Its always exciting when you start to look ahead and see what you sill be doing. Good luck with all of your training this week! :)

You can't go wrong with the RR plan, it has worked for many years and one that I always follow.

Anne, please feel free to ask me ANYTHING, I have been a pace leader at the RR for many years...if I don't know the answer (believe me, I don't know everything, LOL), I'll find it for you.

Nothing wrong with regression. Lots of training plans have you regress for a week.

I love to plan, too. It's the best part! I also loved Fantasy Island and my chips beg to be eaten. You are going to do great!

Thanks for your comments! I'm like you, impatient to get started! I almost always start my "plan" a week early. A few times I've started two weeks early and had to repeat a few weeks here and there. Probably NOT the best idea, but hey - it worked.

Wow, your chips talk to you too? I thought it was just me. Oh and "ZEE plane, zee plane!" That picture brought back great memories, yes, I was addicted to that show when I was little. What was it about anyway???

I LOVE a plan - feels like you know where you are headed - what to do next - where it will lead you.

Speaking of chips - I had a church council meeting this evening and someone brought food - which was great. But the bowl of Sun Chips were right in front of me. Yikes . . . those chips hopped right out of the bowl and on to my plate. It was magic. !!!!!!

Oh, Fantasy Island - what a show! Good luck with your half marathon plan, I think it's a good thing to have a plan then you always know just what you need to do and when you get to race day, you can feel confident you'll be prepared for the big event.

Congrats on starting a training program! I am on Week 3 of the Hal Higdon novice program. I didn't want speedwork or anything like that, just wanted to finish. LOL! GOOD LUCK!

Great list. I love that your a bookworm. I used to be but lately I've been obsessed with soduko and kokuro puzzles. Have you ever downloaded books and listened to them on your long runs? Since your training for half marathon and you might end up running some of those long runs by yourself it's a great way to spend the time. I started doing it when I was training for a marathon and it turned out to be a genious idea. I love getting lost in a book for hours at time so why didn't I think of that eiarlier?! I just check them out from the library and download them to my itunes. Just a though for you....

Your schedule looks great. It's 16 weeks wich is plenty of time so yeah, I think the first few weeks are the appropriate amount of 'slowness'. Good luck.

Hello my beautiful Wonder Woman (I'm thinking we should run in the WW costume on Marathon Day, waddya think?) I was so excited to start my plan last week - I sleep with the training schedule by my bed, along with a calculator, constantly figuring and re-figuring my pace and mileage - I am such a running nerd. Looking forward to our next face to face running tete a tete...
