Back on track...and a marathon in my future!

"You have to forget your last marathon before you try another. Your mind can't know what's coming."

Frank Shorter

I don't think I'll ever forget my first marathon...here I am at km 38!
But I must have forgotten certain parts, because...

Anne is officially registered for the Philadelphia marathon!
Woohoo!!!!!

Okay, back to the upcoming half-marathon. After last week's post...I got a comment that spoke to me. Thanks Marv.

What a week ! hope this one is better. When I see a crowd of participants lined up to start an event, I often wonder what all they had to go through to get there.
So true...
This week was a good one...I rested like it was my job, I got all my runs in and Sunday's long run, which included 8km at race pace, went really well! Except for a side pain...
Yeah, as I mentioned last week, I saw a nutritionist, who told me I don't eat enough protein and I need more calories. Okay. The problem is that she also wanted me to add more whole grains. Fine. Uh not fine. Talk about cramping and side pains...I'm taking that a little slower. I had to take an extra walk break during my race pace segment due to a side pain (nice that it didn't affect my pace :)). Next Sunday includes 10km at race pace...hopefully, no side pain!
I am now in the sharpening and tapering phase of my kick-ass program...hope the stars align and it leads to a kick-ass race in four weeks :)
Cheers!

So exciting that you've got another marathon on the schedule!!

Side pain...no bueno. I had that on my last speed work run, out of nowhere. I never get side cramps! Not sure what that was all about. Hopefully we're both done with them. :)

Whole grains are great in theory but not necessarily in practice. I've found I can't take too many if they're wheat or have a lot of gluten. Not fun to run when your intestines are cramping.

I'm excited that you're doing a marathon too. We can train together virtually.

Congrats on the commitment to the marathon. Why Philadelphia? Good luck in your training.

What would life be without the challenge of a commitment: one in which courage must be summoned to assume the risk, to bear the pain, to see the commitment through to the end and sometimes find a stronger, braver person than once thought. Once tasted, this process seems addictive, and I cannot imagine living without it. God bless you in your training and in your event.

Woohoo - Philly!! I hear that's a great marathon. I wish I could commit to something in the fall/winter but I'm so focused on Leadville right now. I keep thinking I'll be taking a 5 month hiatus from running after it's over :) so no commitments...but Philly would be top of the list if I did.

That's cool you saw a nutritionist to help you hone in on your weaknesses. I need one of those...exclusively eating Easter jelly beans just aren't cutting it.

Keep up the great work, girl!! :)
