Fiery quads - Feeling strong!

"It is not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change."

Charles Darwin

After my not so great run last Monday, the rest of the week was really good. First of all, I now have a treadmill. A friend sold it to me for a very good price and I'm super excited. I have the best set-up...check it out!
It's in the sun room (still under construction), which allows me to feel like I'm outside. When I open the windows, I feel a nice breeze. Perfect!

So many things have gone right this week with my training. I'm really enjoying running by time instead of Kms. For some reason, I don't find myself stressing about how many Kms I still have to go. I know exactly for how long I will be running and it makes it easier for me to plan my runs. This week, I started my plyometrics/abs/strength workout, which I'll be doing once a week (explains the fiery quads). I also got out on my bike once and the weather was perfect. We had a really great week weather-wise.

For today's run, I ended up doing 10K, as the plan was 70 minutes at LSD pace. Should be 7:25min/km, but was 7:04min/km (not so far off)...I took a gel before starting and I know it helped keep me from fading. The whole run felt really good. Speaking of gels, I tasted the banana/strawberry Gu and I really liked it a lot. Finally, the Fort is now open, which means a bathroom and fresh water at the half-way point. Yay!

I need to start taking pictures again when I go for runs or bike rides, I've been forgetting the camera. Today, despite the achy quads, I often had a smile on my face as I was running. It has been a while since I've felt so good out there...what a great feeling! The quads feel tight, but strong...it's a good ache :)

Have a great week everyone!
Cheers!

That's a nice treadmill! It's fortunate that you have a nice sun room to put in your 'mill runs! Sweet!

Glad your training is going so well! I started running by time instead of distance this spring and I am enjoying it a lot - it seems to take some of the pressure off and allows me to enjoy my running more.
...and strawberry bananna is one of my favorite Gu flavors too!

I like your treadmill, I know you need one for the winter and that's the perfect spot for it!
I loved your last paragraph, "I had a smile on my face as I was running." Just awesome.

I'm so glad to hear about your happy running. :) You've done so much so right through being injured and being patient and really listening to your body, cross training, finding the answer for yourself, and getting back to training. A treadmill with a view is a pretty nice reward. :)

That is a GREAT place for your treadmill - almost like being outside. Love it.

Hoping that your training is going well. I like the idea of running based on time - the miles / km will fall into place. The most important thing is to be on your feet / legs for long periods of time - so running based on time makes a lot of sense.

Nice TM! I can't believe I just said that...

I have been running by time for over a year now and find, like you, it works better for me, less stressing out about how much distance. I think it is a quality over quantity thing.

Good to see your training is going so well!

Enjoy it!

AWESOME score on the TM and what a perfect location - wow! My TM is in my basement (aka: dungeon) and the one window there is tiny and not much fresh air. I think I'll build a sunroom on my house today!! :)

Soooooo happy to hear the running's going better....I agree, sometimes it's great to not worry about mileage and just go out and run. First time in probably year, I have no idea how many miles I'm running/week right now....and it's so liberating!

Happy week!! :)
