Starting this Sunday - Byebye comfort zone ;)

Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.
Neale Donald Walsch
I agree that life is more exciting when we dare to step outside our comfort zone, but I can't say I've ever enjoyed taking those first steps. Although I've never regretted it, ever!

Mostly, when I've stepped outside my comfort zone, it was to do something that scared me (such as teach a class for the first time or fly in a small plane). But, once it was over, it was over! I then felt super proud and glad I'd said yes. However, this time, the outer zone I'm planning on stepping into is one that requires enduring some degree of pain. I've been there a few times and it's not something I've gotten used to. I don't particularly enjoy pushing myself too hard. It's kind of nice to just run at a comfortable pace and enjoy the scenery.  BUT...

When I signed off after running my marathon in September 2011, I remember specifically writing that I wasn't looking to run faster. I wanted to enjoy running and stay injury free...and I did. Now, after a year, I do want to try and run faster...but, I'm a little scared. Yet, I get it that if I step out regularly, eventually, my comfort zone will be a little bigger...and that's the whole point! I'm motivated and ready to give it my all!

So I'm scared excited to start my new program this coming Sunday and my first long run is 14km. :)

Thanks for welcoming me back blogger friends...I really appreciate it!!

Cheers!

How often do you step outside your comfort zone?

Love the comfort zone quotes! Good luck with your speed goal. :) I know you can do it...while I haven't followed any disciplined running plan in...forever...I do know that doing speedwork sessions makes a real difference in your overall speed, and I think they're fun.

Comfort zone, what comfort zone? Mine is pretty small, but I get sucked into things that are way out of it regularly.

So true about the comfort zone. I had that with running in the heat. I decided to leave the cool temp comfort zone and started doing some training in the heat on weekends. Now I don't have a heat problems in races any more. I can do so much more with confidence. All the best with your upcoming program!

It's very true about the comfort zone. It is fun to push the envelope now and again and I'm sure you're going to do great! All the best with training!

Yay for leaving that comfort zone. Last summer when I did the triathlons it was WAAAAY outside of my comfort zone especially the swimming part. It still will be next summer but I cannot wait to do them again! I am astounded that first I did them and second how much I enjoyed them and third to find out many people were or at least a few others were only so so swimmers! Can't wait to follow you on your journey. If there is a good half in your area let me know. The other way I am stepping out of my comfort zone is more driving in cities. Although I doubt I could handle Montreal.

I just found your site, and really impressed with your writing. I’m 43 years old and have had asthma all my life, I took up running in 2008, and have found great ways to control it. I ran my first half-marathon last summer, and am looking to run 3 of them next year. Good luck in all you do.

So gald to see you back Anne!

You may have already come across this saying somewhere along the way. "if it doesn't challenge you, it doesn't change you!" My belief is when you change, you learn and grow.

I'm looking forward to following you and seeing how you grow as you step outside your comfort zone!
