Asthma update: Sigh...

“Life is full of obstacle illusions.”
Grant Frazier

First, the knee is doing better and better despite increased mileage on my runs...although I remain cautious, I feel that I really am on the mend . YAY!!!
Not so fast lady!

Maybe it's because of hay fever season, who knows...but, the lungs are acting up these days. The good thing is that I've gone 140 days without prednisone and that's the longest I've ever gone since I first had to take it. The not so good thing is that tomorrow, we're back to square one as I must go on prednisone (hopefully, just for one week). It's a bit frustrating, but even when my lungs act up and I have to take this oral steroid I don't feel anywhere near as sick as I used to. Running has significantly improved my lung capacity, and consequently, my quality of life. SO, although tomorrow will be -7 days off prednisone...I have a 12K planned...now put that hand down and let me through...you can't stop me from trying! ;)
Cheers!

Can you take an inhaler steroid instead of the pills? I am an inhaler and doing well because of it. Otherwise, that's a huge bummer. Hay fever season is really a tough season for anyone and much worse for someone with asthma.

Oh no! But it is still great that you have been able to cut back on the prednisone so radically - any progress is good, right? And glad to hear the knee is still doing well.

Sorry your asthma is playing up, we have it in our family so I only know too well, what a massive impact it can have on a persons health, now if only I could convince those in my family who suffer to take up running.....

Good luck with your 12k tomorrow.

2 good news: the knee is doing well and you spent 140 days without prednisone. Enjoy your 12 km. tomorrow and keep on running, I am sure you will solve the asthma problem as I did many years ago.

I'm so sorry that you have to go back on the Prednisone, even if it is for a short duration. I just finished a five day round of it. I can't take it longer than that because of it's side effects.

Yes, keep your chin up. You are doing so well through your own efforts, something to be proud of.

Way to stay positive and be cautious!

oh, no! That sucks! You must be so disappointed :( ... but as you said before, every next time your days off prednisone increase and that's really good news...next time will be 200 days off it :) and now that your knee is doing better you can focus on the marathon training (with the added energy boost from the steroid)

Sorry to hear it! But you have come so far and are doing so well--put your energies into that!

Hope it's temporary. I'm sure all the running has helped!

Nothing will get in your way! Hope you are feeling better soon.

Oh, the dreaded Prednisone. I hate that stuff. If I take it for too long I turn into a raging meanie. Last time I had to take it for 60 days and well, they almost fired me at work because I was so mean.

Hay Fever has hit me here too. Lucky me and you. I'm really enjoying running on a treadmill inside, less pollen and allergens there. Still, I'd rather run on the beach!

Feel better soon! And take it easy on that knee. Run on.

Great news about the knee. Nothing can keep you back anymore, you've come a long way and have a very solid fitness base. Good luck with the medication week and take care.

Great news on the knee. That stinks about the prednisone but 140 off is amazing.

I hope your lungs get better fast... It just happens that I'm experiencing the same thing right now. I've been off the inhaler for a very long time, but my lungs were doing really well because i was going to hot yoga a lot (hard breathing in a hot, humid setting helps somehow)... anyway, but I haven't gone to yoga lately just b/c of this whole ankle/surgery ordeal, and I feel like my lungs are half their normal size.... SO DON'T WANT TO GO TO A DOCTOR!!!!

Anyway, enough about me... good luck! a little treatment, and back to doing really well for you!
