Snippets AND…

"I think I'd like to run a marathon someday,”
Benjamin Levy

Les Lacets Rouges ;)

Psyche tagged me with the Versatile Blogger award. So, this time, I thought I’d tell you seven more things I’d like to share regarding my first half-marathon.

1. I am so very proud of my uber hubby (uber H from now on). As most of you know, he also ran the half-marathon. He is an athlete (hockey player) and once ran a half-marathon 20 years ago, but it wasn’t a great experience. He took up running again only last July when I did, so he could spend time with me. Isn’t he sweet. He often ran his long runs with me, at my pace, and I think deep down, he worried this may affect his chances of running a sub-two hour half. Well, not so! He did an awesome job and crossed the finish line in 1h51m! So if you want proof that running slower to run faster works, there you have it. He did many of his tempo runs, speed and hills at his own pace, but the long runs were often at my pace, so we could chat together along the way. Yay uber H!

2. My 14 year old niece ran her 5K in 24m11s! Without training, although she does lots of sports! She hopes to run a 10K next…Go L Go!

3. I think I figured out why my “abs” were sore. It was actually tender around the front of my waist and I think it’s because of my fuel belt. I have two 8 oz bottles and two added-on 10 oz bottles. I put the 10 oz bottles in the front and they were probably a little heavy, although I felt no pain as I was running. I put my fuel belt at my waist and tighten it quite a bit, so it doesn’t move around, so I’m thinking that’s what happened. Next time, I’ll put the lighter bottles in front. So much to learn…

4. I am looking forward to seeing if they got a good picture of me at the finish line, because so far, no one in my family was able to get a picture of me facing the camera (except the one in my last post). So far, here’s what we’ve got…

I'm in the red tank top with a black skirt and my fuel belt!
Interestingly, right behind me is a girl in a red tank top and a blond ponytail.
I’m the ponytail in front!

5. After two rest days, I have no lingering pain anywhere! How cool is that!

6. Uber H and I will now be taking 4 weeks off before starting our new training program. Are you getting curious…would you like to know what we will be training for…have you checked out the widget on my sidebar yet?

7.

We did it! We signed up for a MARATHON!
October 24, 2010
I am terrified and super excited at the same time. The funny thing is, uber H is the one who came home saying, let’s do it…and I’m loving training with him and having these exciting plans together, so I said, why not! Running a marathon one day is why I started running in the first place…a bucket list goal :)

Cheers!

Wow, congrats on signing up for the full & good luck with your training. My most persistent "injury" is always from my fuel belt, but I get a sore spot on my back. Let me know if you figure out a way around it, I sure haven't. I tried running without one in Vancouver and just using the on course fueling stations, but wouldn't recommend that.

Wow! How exciting! My brother in law actually ran that marathon, my sister ran the half - it was a good race but they had cold temps - that shouldn't be a problem for you!

Congratulation on signing up for the marathon! Spent several years working in Buffalo doing consulting work for HSBC, and made several trips to the falls. I bet that's a great race.
Very jealous of you having your hubby to train with. I think my wife thinks I'm slightly insane to be chasing marathons. Hopefully my kids will join me some day.

Excellent choice!! It is flat and fast and remember to take your passport, seriously, you'll need it!

LSD are just that, so Uber H did the right thing and oh, congrat's to UH!!!!!

don't stop running completely, but you know, many people use Niagara to Boston Qualify...just saying... :)

How exciting! A full marathon! If you take it on with as much enthusiasm as you did the half you will fly through this one, no doubt it will be hard, but you have proven you have the fortitude and wisdom to train well and you also have a dedicated training partner!

That's really funny about the ponytail pic. :)

Anne, I'm so happy you've found your 'stride' and loving training so much, especially w/ Uber H! You've come a long way in a short time. (and your niece has clearly been inspired by auntie)

Woo hoo! Congratulations on your rockin' half marathon! Great run and great time!

Very exciting about your upcoming full! You will be hooked for sure I can tell!

RE: your comment - thanks for the support. I HATE prednisone! My asthma has been really well controlled for years. This is the first time I have been back on pred in over 3 years. It is my pulomonologist's threat when I am bad about my maintenance medications. :)

Anne,
I actually did look at Niagara Falls as a possibility but I was thinking it was too far. But I mapquested Mount Desert Island which I am leaning towards and it is just shy of 8 hours. Niagara Falls is just over 7 so they are comparable. In some ways that is a better weekend. (NF) I hate making decisions. Do you know much about the marathon?

I trained for a 1/2 with my hubby earlier this year. I was such a positive thing for our relationship. Looking forward to training for a full with him soon.

I finally made it to your blog tonight to read about your 1/2 marathon! You did great! I'm so glad it was a good experience for you and it must have been since now you are signed up for a full marathon! :)

What fun is ahead and how wonderful to train with your husband.

It's great to hear about your decision :)Congratulation on signing up for the marathon! I've never run a marathon. Could you write your marathon training program?

Here I am again. Thanks for getting back to me. I am thinking I will either do Maine -(hard but beautiful) or Hartford - pacers, not too hilly or Hampton Beach -(flat starts at 10). My daughter also threw the Corning Marathon in New York into the mix. I want to BQ some day but my last marathon was hard and slower for me so I want to have a good marathon with a better time. I had been within 5 minutes of BQing but not last time. But..... one Canadian marathon I have wanted to do is the Quebec City Marathon at the end of August. It won't be this year. The timing is never good as it is during inservice days but it has been on my want to do list for a long time. If you think you are going to do it some year let me know! The Niagara one does sound good! Decisions decisions!

Good decision and if your husband helps you during the training you will run a great marathon. Good luck
