Tuesday Tidbits!

"Successful people do what unsuccessful people don't dare."
Don't know who said this, but I like it.

An interesting thing, is that I looked at my Garmin only once during my 10K race last Sunday. When I reached the 4K marker, I wanted to check whether my Garmin was on track and it was beeping 4K, right on. For some reason, I never even thought to check my Garmin. I'm a little surprised, because on my training runs, I tend to check on a pretty regular basis. I guess I was really focused. My pace didn't vary much either and never slowed. I had my fuel belt and so didn't need to stop for water or Gatorade. I even forgot to stop the Garmin after crossing the finish line. All I can remember is that I was running and feeling good. Please, may I feel so focused and good when I run my first ever half-marathon in less than 3 weeks!

Today, I once again chose to complete my intervals on the Treadmill. I find it easier to control the speed. I doubled up and did 3 X 800m intervals (up from 400m last week) and near the end I did an extra minute at 7.5min/mile...happy! Then I did my gym workout, which I enjoy, and I held my plank for 2 minutes...more happy :)

Okay, almost bedtime...I'm being good about getting to bed around 10pm...athletes need their rest ;)

Cheers!

Good job on the intervals. I did a tempo run today which could have been better.

Your first race sounded so good - even pacing is hard to achieve. I hope your half is just as good.

I am the same way...I never look at my Garmin when racing! Also, I have yet to stop my darn Garmin after a race:) Very funny..maybe it means that we are just very focused on the task at hand!

Don't even worry about your half...you got this one:)

It is always great to be so in the zone during the race that you tune everything else out. Only 3 weeks to go...you can do it!

A two minute plank?! AWESOME!!!

I wonder if I will ever run a race and not look at my Garmin that often. That's a great goal.

I find not looking at my watch a good thing that keep me relaxed. No worries about time and pace, just run as I feel. I think not stopping it at the finish is a sign of having so much fun it doesn't matter...that's great!

Hmmm...maybe you don't need your Garmin in a race? Might be fun to try it w/o sometime and see how it goes. Great work on your intervals. You're gonna be ready for that 1/2!

I think it's a good thing not to stare at the Garmin too much during races... sometimes it's a good idea to just run based on how you feel.

Great job on your intervals!

It's important you felt good while you were running. Congrats on your first race!

All I ask is to feel good while I race too. I am in a bit of a slump right now - maybe I am just tired. I am somewhat concerned about my upcoming 1/2 in less than 2 weeks. I was suppose to run a long run today but I just wasn't up to it. I very rarely cancel a scheduled run but I did today. I hope I can pick myself up in the next few days.

Thanks for your inspiring words - it reminds me that I can do it too! Have a great day Anne!

I never learned how to program my Garmin so it is basically just a really expensive digital watch! I really don't pay attention to anything but my 10:1 run/walk intervals during my long runs and only calculate my average pace at the end of my run. When you're doing really long runs the last thing you want to start doing is checking stats every few minutes, it's really important to just let go and zone out. The amazing thing is that even though my pace varies a lot during a long run my overall pace has been consistent from run to run. I totally believe in running based on how you feel and that the body is the best pacemaker. And...2 minute plank!!! I can barely squeeze in 90 seconds - you are in wicked shape my friend!!

Way to get right back into training. Hope you are having a good week.

What is your secret for the plank? I am such a wimp - i can barely hold a minute! I definitely need to work on that.

I am the opposite during road races. Look at that garmin way to much.

I really love how positive your posts are.

Thank you so much for your support with my surgery. IT really means a lot. The surgery didn't happen (I wrote a blog post about it). It's unbelievable.

I don't wear my Garmin in a race; I hate to become obsessed with it. Great job on the 8's, that's the way to do it, girl!! So excited for your first half here soon :)!!!

Oh! - you use a fuel belt. What kind? Does it bounce? Do you like it? Does it sit at your waist or hips?

You're so fit, a 2 min. plank is great! I heard that 90 seconds puts you in the "excellent fitness" category. Sometimes I don't race with my Garmin and it really helps me relax more. Other times, I just have to have it with me...

I never wear the Garmin during the race. No distractions! Great job on the treadmill. I admire you!

I keep meaning to ask, but where is the beach you are running on your blog header? It's such a great picture. :)

I also prefer intervals on the treadmill for the same reasons you mentioned! Way to go!
