Always remember...

" Do not spoil what you have, by desiring what you have not; remember that what you now have was once among the things you only hoped for."
Epicurus

Never forget what it felt like when you could not run, or what it feels like right now if you can not run. I am having a great training week and I am really excited and proud of myself. However, getting out there and running still requires a light kick in the butt. Although, I just have to remind myself how it felt when I couldn't run. Then, I quickly change gears, feel the gratitude and get myself ready.

I'm still being cautious and trying not to overdo it, but I'm getting out there regularly.
Tuesday - 5K non-stop
Wednesday - 10K 10/1 ratio
Thursday - 5K 10/1 ratio
TODAY: I did my first ever mini-brick! I went for a 10.7K bike ride and then a 3K run. I actually found the first K of the run quite tough...but I got stronger and stronger and I did it!
Who knows what the weekend will bring, but I do plan on getting a longish run in.
First brick in the books!

So, next weekend, on Sunday May 29th, is the Ottawa Marathon, which I am registered for. The plan is to run half the distance. I can't officially do the half-marathon, because it is sold out, but I'm quite sure I can just stop after the half-distance timing (I think that there is a point where marathoners go one way and half-marathoners the other...so I'd go the other.) That's the plan. BUT, there's this teeny tiny little voice way in the back of my brain that is telling me that if I'm feeling okay, maybe I can continue even if I have to walk much of the second half. I'm trying to shush that voice up, because I definitely do not want to risk another injury...I'm pretty sure I don't want this to be how I complete my first marathon...almost certain really. Makes sense right? I'm just happy I feel strong enough to run the half! I'll probably stick to the plan...

BIG CONGRATS TO MARLENE AND HER HUBBY WHO BOTH ROCKED THEIR MARATHON GOALS AND BQ'D! Totally deserved, they definitely trained very hard for this, it was no gift.

Cheers everyone!

Anne, you are too sweet! Thank you. :)

It is sooo good to see you running again so don't take that for granted - just get that full marathon idea right out of your head. :) You will get another shot when your body is ready for it!

Thanks Marlene...that's all I needed to hear :)

Great advice Marlene!
Anne I agree there's a time and place for your first full marathon and it'll come before you know it. For now go rock that half! Thinking of you.

Congratulations to Marlene!

Anne, you're looking great! So glad to hear that the running is coming along. I'm always surprised by how hard it is to run off the bike. The first time I did, I felt like Phoebe from Friends running.

Sounds like you are doing awesome Anne! Good luck next weekend and have a fantastic time running that half:) Great picture of you...looking good as always!

I'm with Marlene - just be sensible. There will be time for marathons in your near future IF (and only if) you behave yourself now.

I really liked the quote at the beginning. It was timely for me with my race tomorrow. It doesn't matter how fast I run it - the fact that I can run it is enough.

So so happy that you are running pain free!

I ran and biked today - but took time off between. My plan was to run another mile when I got back from my bike ride - but that idea was squashed, after I fell off my bike due to a car. I didn't really get hurt, but I did slice the back of my ankle, near my achiles tendon - Hurts to walk ;-(

Oh, what a cliffhanger...but be careful! We wouldn't want you to get injured again! So enjoy the half and being able to feel good running it.

A beautiful header!!!! Don't change it for the next 10 years!!!
You have the right spirit to run a great half but nothing is impossible and I bet that you will finish the whole distance.
My first marathon was the same, we (3 friends) decided to run 30 km and we left the car at that mark but we arrived at the end step by step! This could be your story too.

I always feel that way in brick workouts - jello legs for the first half mile and then stronger as I go. What a good feeling - and I love the post-brick photo!

Knock 'em dead this weekend, however far you decide to run :)

You look great! And I am so happy to hear you are doing well (so don't screw it up, ha ha) I am sure when you are at the race you will know the best thing to do; listen to your body, follow your heart, be smart and have a super great time! I know you'll kill it no matter what you do. Cheers!

I love your new header. Congrats on your brick. I was thinking today I need to do that. I have been doing lots of doubles where I do them both in the day but not bike first and with several hours inbetween. Can't do one tomorrow because of other things going on but will do a double. Keep healthy! Your plan sounds good.

Hi, I'd just like to encourage you to do the marathon, it's an unforgettable achievement. I think you can do it because you mentioned you might walk the second half. That's the right kind of mentality, something that'll keep you from burning out. I'd like to suggest the strategy I used for my first and only marathon, run/walking right from the start, not just in the second half. That got me through it, I enjoyed it, and was ready for work the following day. Good luck!

Nice training week, well done! If this was not your first marathon I would have said maybe…depending on how many marathons you’ve done. As your first I’m saying no, stick to your plan.

Hey!! Je n'y aurais pas pensé, mais c'est une idée géniale de courir une partie du marathon!!! C'est tellement moins décevant comme ça!!! Je vais être là pour t'encourager!!!! Yééé!!!

This speaks volume to my heart today. This quote. Makes me want to cry really. But in a good way. In a way that I need to never forget that I am a runner, that I will one day bounce back from that injury and run another marathon. Thanks Anne. And have fun in Ottawa :)

So happy to hear that you are running pain free again. I say stick with the 1/2 to make sure you can keep running ;)

Make it a great day!

YAY for first brick!

AND must say . . . you are killing those black tights.

Mike of FailureToDetectSarcasm.com said...

Bricks are so good for you.
Hard to believe people would voluntarily run after biking, but it's crazy and hurts (good hurt).
Have a fun (half) marathon. So you'll be wearing a marathon bib, and then hang it up safely at 13.1...guaranteed a bunch of jealous (full) marathoners when they see that move.

You look A-MAZ-ING, Anne - woooot!!
*waving hand high up in the air* totally get the "not running thing" - and may I just add, totally over it all...but that's another story :). Glad you are getting to do half of the marathon, yay!!!!1
